How to Sync Sports Schedules to Outlook Calendar (2026 Guide)

How to Sync Sports Schedules to Outlook Calendar (2026 Guide)

Google Calendar and Apple Calendar get most of the attention when people talk about syncing sports schedules, but if your work life runs on Microsoft 365, you probably want your sports games in the same Outlook Calendar you check every morning. Here's how to set it up properly.

How iCal Subscriptions Work in Outlook

Outlook supports iCal/ICS subscriptions — the same format used for Google and Apple Calendar sync. Once you subscribe to a calendar, Outlook automatically checks for updates on a schedule (typically every few hours for desktop Outlook, more frequently on mobile).

The setup is slightly different depending on whether you're using:

  • Microsoft 365 / Outlook on the web (Outlook.com)
  • Outlook desktop app (Windows or Mac)
  • Outlook mobile (iOS or Android)

Setup: Outlook on the Web (Recommended Starting Point)

  1. Go to sportscal.io and search for your team
  2. Click Add to Calendar → choose Outlook
  3. You'll be redirected to Outlook.com (or your organization's Outlook) with the subscription URL pre-filled
  4. Click Subscribe and confirm

Once subscribed via Outlook.com, the calendar syncs across all your Outlook apps automatically — desktop client, mobile app, and browser. You don't have to set it up separately on each device.

Setup: Outlook Desktop App

If you prefer to start directly in the desktop app:

  1. In the SportsCal subscription flow, copy the ICS subscription URL (look for "Copy Link" or "Other Calendar App")
  2. In Outlook, go to File → Account Settings → Internet Calendars
  3. Click New and paste the URL
  4. Add a name like "Dallas Cowboys Schedule" and click OK

The calendar appears in your sidebar under "Other Calendars" and syncs automatically going forward.

Does It Work with Microsoft Teams?

If your organization uses Microsoft Teams, your Outlook calendar is visible inside Teams via the Calendar tab. So once you've added your sports subscription to Outlook, it shows up in Teams too — including the game reminder notifications, which can be useful if you spend most of your workday in Teams.

Update Frequency in Outlook

One thing to be aware of: Outlook desktop updates subscribed calendars less frequently than Google Calendar does by default. The standard interval is every 24 hours. For most sports use this is fine — games are typically confirmed days in advance. If you want more frequent updates, you can manually refresh (right-click the calendar → Refresh) or switch to managing the subscription via Outlook.com which syncs more often.

Which Leagues Are Supported?

All of them — same as Google Calendar and Apple Calendar. NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Premier League, La Liga, Champions League, UEFA Europa League, MLS, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball, F1, UFC, and more. The subscription format is universal across all calendar apps.
