Add Any Sports Schedule to Apple Calendar (iPhone)

Add Any Sports Schedule to Apple Calendar (iPhone)

If you live on your iPhone, your team's schedule should live there too. The good news: adding a sports schedule to Apple Calendar takes about a minute — and once it's in, it updates itself when games move.

The trick is doing it the right way. Most people download a file, then wonder why their calendar is wrong a week later. Here's the version that actually stays current.

Why downloading an .ics file isn't enough on iPhone

When you download a schedule file, you get a snapshot — the games exactly as they were the moment you tapped save. Postponements, time changes, playoff dates added later? Your phone never hears about them. You'd have to download the file again every time something changes, which defeats the point.

A subscription fixes this. Instead of a one-time copy, you're linking to a feed that refreshes on its own.

Add a sports schedule to Apple Calendar in 4 steps

  1. Open the builder on your iPhone — go to build your calendar.
  2. Pick your team. Search any team in any league and select it, or browse all teams.
  3. Tap "Apple Calendar." Your iPhone will ask if you want to subscribe — say yes.
  4. Confirm. The schedule appears in the Calendar app, color-coded and ready.

It syncs across iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Because the subscription lives in your iCloud account, it shows up everywhere you're signed in — iPhone, iPad, and Mac — automatically. Set it up once on one device and it's on all of them.

What gets added to each game

  • Start time in your local timezone
  • Opponent
  • Home or away, plus the venue
  • League or competition
  • Where to watch

Fix "my calendar isn't refreshing"

If new games aren't showing up, check your refresh setting: open Settings, tap Calendar, then Accounts, then Fetch New Data, and make sure it's fetching regularly (not set to manual). Apple controls how often subscribed calendars refresh.

Add more than one team

Following a few teams? Add them all and merge them into a single feed with Calendar Collections — one calendar, every team. You can also grab ready-made feeds like NFL on Apple Calendar or NBA on Apple Calendar.

Works beyond Apple, too

The same feed plugs into Google Calendar and Outlook, so if you switch phones or use a work calendar, nothing's lost. For the official steps, see Apple's guide to subscribing to calendars on iPhone.

One and done

Stop re-downloading schedules. Subscribe once and let your iPhone keep every game time honest for you.
